Rate-A-Restaurant #282: Wood and Vine
Restaurant: Wood and Vine
Location: 6280 Hollywood Blvd. (Hollywood)
Type of restaurant: Small plates/tapas
We stipulated: It was date night, and Maria and I decided to hit the Arclight Hollywood for a showing of "Moonrise Kingdom." But first we wanted to grab a drink and a quick bite. Now that Bodega wine bar is closed in Hollywood, we decided to dash up Vine to Wood & Vine. I had previously met some friends a few months earlier there.
They stipulated: "A Hollywood bar and restaurant featuring local small batch wines and beers, classic cocktails, and seasonal shared plates.Located in the historic 1923 Taft Building, home to the first offices of Charlie Chaplin and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, just across from the Pantages Theatre."
What we ordered: Cocktails, $12. Squash blossoms. Plus, on a previous visit, mix and match cheese and charcuterie (3 for $13, 5 for $17, 7 for $22) and chicken and waffles (house-made waffle, $16)
High point: The drinks are well-crafted, and the squash blossom was a nice guilty pleasure.
Low point: Sitting in the front of the restaurant, we were bombarded with flies. Tough to have a conversation and enjoy a drink when flies are buzzing all around you.
Overall impression: Much more calm, pleasant, laid-back and welcoming than most other Hollywood spots.
Chance we'll go back: Makes a good happy hour spot. I'd love to return.
