South Glendale Loses Its Trader Joe's
Monday is the last day for the tiny, cramped Glendale Trader Joe's located near the intersection of Broadway and Glendale. With a new location opening up north of the 134 at Brand and Glenoaks on Tuesday, it's time for the old store to close for good.
Of course, that means there will no longer be a Trader Joe's in South Glendale (which will have to rely on the Eagle Rock and Silver Lake locations). The old store, located across from Glendale's Civic Center, was too cramped (a throwback from the days when Trader Joe's was a smaller retailer with fewer choices). Most old locations have managed to expand, including the Eagle Rock and Silver Lake stores. But with no signs of the next door Men's Warehouse shutting down, there was no room for the Glendale store to grow.
And now... a farewell to the store:

That's odd. There's a relatively new (& huge, w/ plenty of aisle width) TJ's at 3rd & Fairfax, six or eight blks. from the fairly small 3rd & La Brea store, but (per employees I asked, at least) they have no plans to close the 3rd & La Brea location.
