Radio boards are abuzz that Air America Radio may soon be back on the air in Los Angeles.
With Air America Radio doing well in locales like New York and Portland (see here), underperforming AM stations here may be ripe for a switch to the format. Among those said to be pondering a switch to Air America Radio are Clear Channel's -- yes, you heard that right -- KLAC/570 AM (currently playing adult standards) or KXTA/1150 AM (currently in simulcast with the much more powerful sports talk outlet XTRA/690).
Air America, as you may remember, originally aired here on Multicultural's KBLA/1580 AM, until funding dried up and the company locked the doors. (Air America also lost its Multicultural-owned outlet in Chicago.) But while many predicted a quick death for Air America, its audience levels have been decent enough for it to hold on. For now, Angelenos can still check it out via webcast or on the XM and Sirius satellite radio services.
