Seedy News

CD sale alert! Aron's Records' next parking lot sale is this weekend, April 2 and 3.

The Arons website reports that DVDs, VHS tapes and cassettes will also be out in the sun. As in sales past, the lot is located just south of Aron's Highland Ave. store (not actually in the record shop's own lot).

I still miss Rhino Records' all-CDs-are-99-cents parking lot sales at its old Westwood location... but there are usually gems to be found at the Aron's fest.

Meanwhile, I was sad to see that Silver Lake's Rockaway Records has downsized once again. Rockaway used to take up most of the "Rockaway Plaza" on Glendale Blvd. -- including a budget all-things-99-cents store in the back.

The store was eventually cut in half... and the budget CDs moved into the back of main store. (There's no bigger thrill than finding a CD for $2.99 or less with songs you've been trying to find, after all).

I hadn't been to Rockaway in a while, but hit the store two weekends ago... and the budget section was gone (it's now used for storage). A Rockaway clerk told me the CDs were boxed up and stored for Rockaway's next parking lot sale...
