Rate-A-Restaurant, #59 in a series

Restaurant: Osteria Nonni

Location: 3219 Glendale Blvd., L.A. (Atwater Village)

Type of restaurant: Italian

We stipulated: We were in the mood for some simple, down-to-earth good Italian to satisfy our pasta cravings.

What we ordered: Calamari fritto (appetizer), Ravioli al magro (Maria), eggplant penne (Mike)

High point: Nice to have such a pleasant, go-to neighborhood Italian restaurant so close by. The decor is simple but appealing, the food is decent (but not amazing, just solidly good) and the clientel and staff is friendly.

Low point: Semi-uncomfortable seating arrangements -- particularly with a baby in tow. But no real low points to mention.

Overall impression: Perfect place to bring Evan -- it's a sit-down restaurant, classy but casual enough that I could even stand up and carry Evan at one point. The staff were instantly welcoming when we walked in the door, even with an infant in our arms. (Evan proceeded to flirt with the woman at the table behind us -- unbeknownst to us for most of dinner!)

Chance we will go back: Between the two casual Italian restaurants nearby -- Osteria Nonni and Scarantino's -- I'd pick Nonni (Scarantino's is much more old school.)
