Pastry Palooza
As mentioned by la.foodblogging, Krispy Kreme is throwing its annual Free Doughnut Day today.
Of course, Krispy Kreme customers know that every day is Free Doughnut Day. One of the hallmarks of the chain? A free, warm glazed doughnut handed to you as you wait in line for your order. Wonder if this means you'll actually get two free fried treats today.
Meanwhile, la.foodblogging -- an excellent new site from LABlogs -- reports that the Japanese cream puff chain (you read that right -- Japanese cream puff chain) Beard Papa's is coming to L.A.
Maria and I first tried a Beard Papa cream puff last year in Manhattan. These things are amazing. Made on the spot, with no preservatives, you gotta eat 'em within a day (since the ultrafresh ingredients will soon spoil). As la.foodlogging notes, the whipped custard cream flavors range from vanilla bean to chocolate, green tea, coffee, caramel, strawberry, black sesame and milk tea.
The site also quotes a story in Nation's Restaurant News, which relays that Beard Papa's Manhattan stores "sell upward of 2,000 cream puffs on weekdays and more than 4,000 on weekends."
The first Beard Papa's will open at the Hollywood & Highland complex in late July, la.foodblogging reports.
