Yes, We Have Apple Bananas
L.A. Times columnist Steve Harvey's daily "Only in L.A." feature frequently includes goofs found in advertisements, on signs, in the mail, etc., and sent in by readers. Like this one in today's column:
Unclear on the Concept: In Maui, Deloris St. John of Laguna Niguel spotted what appeared to be a new type of banana (see accompanying ad).
Har! What a screw up! They're referring to bananas as "apple"!
Except they're right. Apparently Harvey has never heard of "apple bananas" (or did a Google search) -- but apple bananas are pretty common, at least in Hawaii, where they're found in back yards and called that because of their apple-like sweet taste.
UPDATE: Harvey corrected his goof in Saturday's paper, noting that apparently he was the one who was unclear on the concept, and that several readers had contacted him to tell him such.
