Rate-A-Restaurant, #70 in a series
Restaurant: Pane e Vino
Location: 8265 Beverly Boulevard (at Sweetzer) (Fairfax District)
Type of restaurant: Italian
We stipulated: We were meeting our friend Leslie for lunch in her old neighborhood; we told her we just needed a place where Evan and his stroller wouldn't be a problem. She suggested the patio at Pane e Vino.
What we ordered:Maria: tortelli all'aragosta con basilico e erba cipollina (half moon shape pasta with a lobster ragout; lemon- cream lobster reduction basil, chive sauce) ($13.95); Mike: pizza con gamberi e rucola (fresh tomatoes, shrimps, arugola and cheese) ($13.50)
High point: Nice spot to catch up with Leslie, and Evan attracted quite a few admirers at the tables surrounding us. Also, shrimp pizza was huge, with enough left over for a second meal.
Low point: Dining on the patio has its risks, particularly the huge amount of flies pestering our food.
Overall impression: A the end of the day, the location is nice, but there just isn't anything special about Pane e Vino's Italian food.
Chance we will go back: Probably not as a couple, but I've had many a business lunch at Pane e Vino, and it'll continue to be a reliable place to meet people for lunch.
