Here Comes the Holly Trolley

Mr. Rogers and his Neighborhood Trolley. No relation to the Holly Trolley.

The Holly Trolley comes to Hollywood this week to shuttle clubgoers around the 'hood. Joseph Mailander was the first on board the bus' inaugural flight on Monday, at a launch party heralding the new piece of transporation:

The Holly Trolley is an anachronistic vehicle for the future of Hollywood. Mostly Red Car in appearance, mostly DASH bus in function, it will shuttle you club types and dining types and we topers along the strip of Hollywood Boulevard between Highland and Vine Thursday thru Saturday evenings until—get this—4 a.m.

It drops down Cahuenga to Sunset to pick up stray Arclighters and it stops at both Metro line stops. It’ll take you to your car if you leave it at Hollywood and Highland. It’ll cost a dollar and if you’ve got a day Metro pass it’s free. It launches this Thursday.

Eric Garcetti had a launch party for the Holly Trolley last night at Mood, one of those edgy clubs along Hollywood Boulevard that have sprung up in the past five years. Open bar. Pronged hors d’oeuvres. Guys in “Stratacaster 50th Anniversary” varsity jackets. Johnny Grant, who knew the Red Line personally. Wendy Greuel. The whole schmeer.

Last month, after some brief confusion over whether the Holly Trolley would consist of old Angels Flight trains (not possible), LA.com noted that "the new Holly Trolley system will implement the Bunker Hill buses, which were originally used to replace Angels Flight when went out of service. Indeed, they do look like streetcars and are less than 10 years old."
