Why the Grinch Stole Glendale's Christmas Tree

What do you do when you get a parking ticket? I silently seethe. Jozjozjoz sends slightly obscene checks to the city.

Then there's Bruce Morrison, who opted to torch the City of Glendale's Christmas tree.

From the Glendale News-Press:

By the time firefighters arrived, they found the city's Christmas tree completely enveloped in flames. Police investigators were able to track down a witness who provided them with the description of a man who fled the scene of the fire in a blue pickup truck.

Arson Unit investigators tracked down the truck to where it was parked on the 700 block of North Adams Street and conducted surveillance on it. They eventually confronted Morrison, recovered evidence from the car they believe was utilized to set the tree on fire and arrested him, Sgt. Tom Lorenz said, adding that Morrison made statements to investigators acknowledging his involvement in the incident.

"Mr. Morrison was apparently upset over the fact that he received a parking ticket," Lorenz said. "This was really a needle in a haystack type of case, and the investigators did a great job. After all, this was the city's Christmas tree, and he was the scrooge."

That anyone would go to such lengths to avenge a parking ticket was beyond Councilman Bob Yousefian's comprehension.

"He got a parking ticket so he decides to burn down a Christmas tree?" Yousefian said. "If he'd paid the parking ticket it would have been, what, about 30 bucks?"

Instead, Morrison may end up paying several thousand dollars and having a felony on his record, Garcia said.

By the way, at 30 feet, that puts Glendale's tree above Los Angeles' puny 25-foot excuse for a tree. Suck it, L.A.!
