More Island Grinds

As Maria, Blogger Baby and I prep for our upcoming trip to Hawaii, we're not the only ones with Hawaii on the brain. Eating LA's Pat discovers World's Greatest Shrimp -Uncle Moki's Original Hawaiian Shrimp Scampi on La Cienega (across from the Target), which she says is a pretty authentic replica of the shrimp trucks found on the North Shore.

Meanwhile, The Delicious Life's Sarah picks up a cake from Kings Hawaiian's satellite "The Local Place" spot in Torrance. She contemplates returning for some local food, which one commenter tried to steer her clear of. I had to pipe in: Say what you want about Kings, it does give you that momentary feeling that you're actually back on Oahu, hanging out at a coffee shop and grinding on local kine food. (Actually, the Torrance location is 100 times nicer than the original Kings Hawaiian in Honolulu, which shut down in 1991.)

As for plate lunch, forget the fakes (including Ono). The original and most authentic remains L&L, which can now be found all over Southern California.
