Rate-A-Restaurant, #104 in a series
Restaurant: Tart
Location: 115 S. Fairfax Ave. (Fairfax area)
Type of restaurant: American, with a Gulf state accent
Inside Tart
We stipulated: At work, Joe, Denise and I were looking for a new business lunch spot... and Tart, conveniently located close by on Fairfax, seemed like an interesting new place to try.
They stipulated: Located in the Farmer's Daughter Hotel, you must park with the hotel valet -- after fighting that horrendous Grove traffic. And despite being called "Tart," dessert is almost an afterthought -- they don't try to sell the three tarts on their menu.
Louisiana BLT
What we ordered: Mike and Denise: Louisiana BLT (bacon/lettuce/tomato with shrimp and an aioli sauce, $12); Joe: Farmer's Burger ($9); appetizers: Back Fin Crab Cakes ($9); Seared Ahi ($10)
Farmer's Burger
High point: The space, inside the recently overhauled Farmer's Daughter, is beautiful. It's well designed and bright and airy. The Louisiana BLT and Back Fin Crab Cakes were strong.
Low point: What wasn't strong was Tart's slow-as-paint-drying service. We were there much longer than expected. Part of the problem: One waitress handled the entire restaurant (which, on the flip side, wasn't that crowded). Also, the ahi tuna was surprisingly disappointing. And the menu was surprisingly small.
Ahi Appetizer
Overall impression: Definitely a place I'd try again, even with the slow service and small menu.
Chance we will go back:Pretty good... but lilkely during lunch.
