60 Years of Commercial TV in Los Angeles
It all started 60 years ago today, when KTLA flipped the switch and went live with a special program hosted by Bob Hope. That was Jan. 22, 1947. (Hope famously got the call letters wrong, and called the station "KTL" at first.)
KTLA was the first commercial TV station to go one the air in L.A., but others quickly followed.
Above, Hope and Tom Selleck wish KTLA a happy 40th birthday, in two spots that aired in 1987.
