L.A. Times Unknowingly Enters The Westside/Eastside Fray
As the debate over the dividing line between L.A.'s Westside and Eastside wages on, the L.A. Times seems to have unknowingly thrown their hat into the ring. The Jan. 20 article "Phantom parking on the Westside" focuses on the lack of parking spaces on 3rd between Fairfax and La Cienega, despite the rapid growth of restaurants along that street.
We know it's not the Eastside -- even people who consider Los Feliz and Silver Lake "the east side" don't feel the same way about 3rd and Fairfax.
But it's not really the Westside either. First off, it's in the 323 area code. At the very least, the Westside is 310 (well, and now 424) exclusively. But when I think of the Westside, I also think of things west of Beverly Hills (think Westwood, Brentwood, etc) and east of Santa Monica. The Westside is closer to the beach than 3rd and Fairfax will ever be (unless the ice caps melt and half of L.A. is underwater).
That growing 3rd Street neighborhood between La Cienega and Fairfax deserves some sort of name of its own (not just the bland "3rd Street/Fairfax" designation found online). Any ideas?
