Another Last Remaining Seats Beef

Lobby of the long-ago torn down Fox Theatre, San Francisco

Adding to my gripe yesterday that the L.A. Conservancy's popular Last Remaining Seats movie series has lately been confined to familiar and/or still readily accessible theaters, reader Scott adds another complaint:

Thanks for pointing out the upcoming Last Remaining Seats festival. I keep meaning to come down from San Francisco for some of the events, but getting off work in the middle of the week is difficult.

I wrote to the LA Conservancy two years ago to ask why the events are never on weekends (which would accommodate out-of-town and out-of-state visitors) but they did not respond. If I were planning the showings, I would do them Fri. night, and during the day and eve. on Saturday and Sunday, so people could a) walk from one theater to the other and see several films and theaters and b) come from out of town, if they do not live in LA, and not have to take extra time off work.

I would really like to see the Los Angeles Theater at some point because it was modeled after San Francisco's Fox Theatre (razed 1963).

Thanks, Scott -- you bring up a good point. Given the L.A. traffic crunch, it's hard to get downtown on a Wednesday in time for the show. In years past, I had to make extra effort to leave early in order to get there on time. It was worth it, but tough to manage.
