Today I hit my 11-year anniversary here in Los Angeles. (You may remember I hit my Decade in L.A. last year, and commemorated it with the Great Wilshire Walk.)
1996 doesn't seem like that long ago... but our city has changed, in both big ways and little ones, in the 11 years since I first made L.A. home.
It's some of the little things that I miss most, the things that remind me of those early days here -- when I was young, wide-eyed and unfamiliar with the city.
What do I miss?
The Rhino Records (the retail store) parking lot sale, with all CDs just a $1
Driving by the Ambassador Hotel and wondering what happened
Using my college meal card (which conveniently had no expiration date listed) for student discounts, particularly movies at the Beverly Connection or Hollywood Galaxy
Living in West Hollywood and dashing across the street to Hugo's (currently being renovated) and the Mayfair Market (now Gelson's)
Watching Barbara Beck keep her co-anchors in check on "KTLA Morning News"
Driving down Sunset Blvd. with the windows down, while listening to Groove Radio 103.1
Dipping those olive oil-soaked pita chips into that fantastic hummus plate at the now-closed Beverly Blvd. restaurant Red
Downing cocktails at the late Hollywood watering hole Daddy's, where I spent many nights with friends in the late 90s
I'm sure I'm forgetting many more memories from my early days in L.A... and to be fair, I'm making many more L.A. memories these days. If anything, this blog has forced me to get even more active in exploring life here.
