Here's a Quick, Easy Way for the L.A. Times to Create Some Sunday Buzz
Remember when the "Sex and the City" women poured over the New York Times' wedding/engagement announcement pages? If I recall correctly, it was the basis of an entire episode.
Even here in L.A., when people get married (like my co-worker Ben Fritz, above), they try to get their wedding listed in the NYT. So why doesn't the Los Angeles Times want a piece of that action?
Sure, it's cheesy stuff sometimes -- but that's the point. People enjoy reading about bizarre hobbies, unusual wedding ceremonies, strange ways in which engaged couples first met, etc. Local blogger Raul is Running has made a sport of it, reading the New York Times' announcements each week to compile his New York Times Wedding Announcement of the Week.
Meanwhile, with the LAT losing circulation, this is one way to target a female, young adult demo. Anyone know the history of when and why the L.A. Times got out of the wedding announcement game?
