Beverly Hills Celebrates 9/02/10

While the rest of the country celebrates, tongue-in-cheek, "International Beverly Hills 90210 Day," the actual City of Beverly Hills is taking the date quite seriously.

Beverly Hills is throwing a big 9.02.10 event tonight, and Brandon and Dylan aren't even invited.

The city is taking the day so earnestly that Beverly Hills mayor Jimmy Delshad will give his "State of the City" address today: "Mayor Delshad will highlight what the City is doing to be the smartest, friendliest and safest city in America," says a Beverly Hills press release.

And then, there's Beverly Hills' 9.02.10 Beverly Hills Celebration Event tonight.

The 9.02.10 event will include a performance by pop star Natasha Bedingfield, as well as CNN's Larry King as master of ceremonies. More:

Guests will be provided with unlimited food and drink from renowned Beverly Hills restaurants and chefs. Celebrated chef Wolfgang Puck of Spago Beverly Hills and Cut Beverly Hills will make a special appearance.

Let's party like it's 90210!

Except... a real 9.02.10 party would feature food catered by the Peach Pit; DJ David Silver on the wheels of steel; and a hair-pulling fight between Kelly and Brenda as they battled for Dylan's affection. Night would end with Dylan hopping on his Harley, having passed on Kelly or Brenda in favor of a new Peach Pit waitress.

Oh, and then Andrea and Brandon would cover it for the school newspaper. And Steve would do something douche-y, while Donna would just stand there with a blank look on her face.

Happy 9.02.10! Celebrate like you're Joe E. Tata!

Meanwhile, I curate five of "Beverly Hills 90210's" best moments over at Variety On The Air. "I Choose Me" vs. "Donna Martin Graduates!" among others.

License Plate of the Day: Legal Edition

Move over, "L.A. Law" -- in the 90210, they're all about the "BH Law"!

Could it be? Twenty years later, someone from the firm of Walsh, McKay & Zuckerman?

Original 90210 Beach House For Sale

Ahh, so many memories. The "Beverly Hills 90210" beach house. I can remember those summers as if it were yesterday, hanging with Brandon, Dylan, Donna, David, Kelly and the Ghost of David's Geeky Friend Who Offed Himself In Season One. (OK, not really.)

But hey, if you've got $10 million to blow, Shelterpop reports that the "90210" beach house is indeed available:

Because oceanfront property is at an uber-premium, most southern California beach towns line houses up along the beach like matches in a matchbook. Hermosa Beach is no different and many of the oceanfront homes offer little in the way of privacy due to all the walkers, bikers and roller skaters who often fill the sidewalk that runs along the back of the property.

The "Beverly Hills, 90210" beach house property has 136-feet of beach frontage –78 feet on the west and 58 feet on the north. Located on the coveted Strand, the property is not only right on the sand, it's also walking distance to the beachy shops and eateries of Manhattan Beach, California.

The building has three units including an owners unit on the ground floor that contains 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and direct access to the back yard. The second floor apartment or guest suite has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms while the third floor, the one that offers the best views and the most privacy, has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom.

And Kokomo Cafe, as the "Peach Pit"

In Los Angeles, even restaurants dream of stardom. The Kokomo Cafe, for example, has doubled as the new, 2008-era "Peach Pit" this season on "90210." Above, the Kokomo is outfitted with the Peach Pit sign for a recent CW press tour party.

The Real-Life "90210"

I just love saying Joe E. Tata's name. Say it with me: "Joe E. Tata." The Tata man was at the CW's portion of the TV Critics Association press tour on Saturday to help serve breakfast (at a faux "Peach Pit") and to confirm that yes, indeed, Joe E. "Nat" Tata would be back slinging hash and advice as a recurring player on the new "90210."

Meanwhile, the L.A. Times has put together this interactive map of new (and old) "90210" shooting spots. How do the tanned "90210"ers live? Check out these sites. A sampling:

Peach Pit (played by Kokomo Cafe: 6333 W. 3rd St.): "The favorite hangout in Beverly Hills for its cool hipster residents, but now it's more of a trendy cafe that Nat, played by the returning Joe E. Tata, still owns."

West Beverly Hills High (played Torrance High School: 2200 W Carson St): "In keeping with the original, all exterior shots of West Beverly High are done here."

West Beverly High parking lot and Lacrosse fields (played by El Segundo High School: 640 Main St.): "The scenes in the high school parking lot and lacrosse fields are filmed here."

Boulevard3 (played by Boulevard3: 6523 W. Sunset Blvd.): "The famed nightclub plays itself and is used for a climactic birthday party scene."

Peach Pit After Dark (played by Spider Club: 1737 Vine St.): "This is the Pit, the reincarnation of Peach Pit After Dark."

There was a gasp in the room during the "90210" press conference when one of the show's new stars admitted that she was 1 when the original "Beverly Hills 90210" launched. Yes, it was nearly 20 years ago.
