Upfront at the Upfronts

Things have been slow here at Franklin Avenue this week, you may have noticed, as I race around New York covering the annual network upfront presentations for Variety. (Check out Variety's complete upfront coverage here.

There's definitely some interesting stuff hitting the airwaves this fall. ABC's "Pushing Daisies" will be the critical darling, and is definitely a unique, quirky entry. CBS' reality show "Kid Nation" -- in which 40 kids, age 8 to 15, take over a ghost town in New Mexico and attempt to build a society with no parents -- will definitely get people talking. CW's Buffy-ish "Reaper" looks like fun, while its comedy "Aliens in America" looks like a great companion to "Everybody Hates Chris." NBC's "Chuck" and "Journeyman" both look well done, and Fox's "K-Ville" -- about post-Katrina New Orleans -- looks pretty powerful. People will also be talking about ABC's Geico commercial-turned-TV show "Cavemen," and CBS' musical drama "Viva Laughlin."

It was a busy week of racing around Manhattan, attending press conferences and sitting in the audience at Radio City Music Hall, Carnegie Hall, the Lincoln Center, Madison Square Garden and the City Center as the networks unveiled their schedules. Click on each network to read more:
