Fox's Cory Monteith Billboard on Pico

Tonight, Fox's "Glee" airs its farewell tribute to Cory Monteith; here's the solemn black-and-white billboard the network erected on Pico outside its offices to promote the event. (And below, here's a cleaner idea of what the billboard says.)

L.A. Cameo: 'Glee' Returns to the Eagle Rock Plaza

The Eagle Rock Plaza had already been featured prominently on Fox's "Glee," in a scene last year involving a flash mob imagined by Artie (the kid in the wheelchair).



For this week's episode, "Glee" once again featured a flash mob -- and once again headed to the Eagle Rock Plaza to perform it. As the cast (led by Kurt, played by Chris Colfer) and many others danced to Duck Sauce's "Barbra Streisand," you could easily see plenty of Eagle Rock Plaza stores, including Target, Seafood City, Chowking and Jollibee.



(I'm pretty sure there's no outposts of Jollibee and Chowking, two Filipino fast food chains, in Ohio, where "Glee" is set. Last May, when Jollibee was also spotted on "Glee," it caused such a stir that "Jollibee" became a trending topic on Twitter.)



According to the Eagle Rock Plaza website, the mall is regularly used for film shoots, and has been seen in episodes of "Criminal Minds," "The Closer" and "Without a Trace," as well as countless music videos and commercials.

'Glee' Sectionals Head Back to Wilshire's Saban Theatre

Regular "Glee" viewers (yes, I know, the show is frequently frustrating to watch, but we still are) can frequently spot Los Angeles locations doubling as Ohio. This week, the show has been filming its "regionals" episode right across the street from my office, at the Saban Theatre on Wilshire (where last year's 'regionals' episode was also shot.

The base of the production has actually been stationed at my office building this week -- hence the yellow signs denoting "WMHS" (above). That's code, of course for "William McKinley High School" -- the name of the school on "Glee."

Funny enough, the "Glee" cast will be back at the Saban on March 16 for their Paley Fest event.

Below, here are extras lined up, I assume to play audience members at "regionals."

Los Angeles Cameo: The Real High School on "Glee"

Fox's "Glee" takes place at the fictional McKinley High in Ohio. But Los Angeles viewers watching Tuesday night's season two premiere may have been thrown off by a familiar school doubling for McKinley.

As anyone who as driven down Sunset near the Hollywood freeway -- or has taken the Wilton shortcut -- might have noticed, the "Glee" kids were singing and dancing on the campus of Hollywood's Helen Bernstein High School.



And how's this for coincidence (or perhaps not, if "Glee's" location scout has a sense of history?): Helen Bernstein High was built on the land once inhabited by the Fox Television Center. That's right, those "Glee" kids were performing "Empire State of Mind" on the same spot where Fox's early days were mapped out. (Before its stint as the Fox TV Center, the site was Metromedia Square -- where some of Norman Lear's most memorable sitcoms were produced).

Bernstein High opened up in 2008. "Glee" has used the school a few times -- but it's never been as noticeable as in this week's episode.

Scenes from a "Glee" Concert

Fox's "Glee" wraps up tonight with its first season finale. A year ago, the show premiered behind "American Idol" and performed so-so -- leading some to wonder whether it would last (or go the way of "Cop Rock").

A year later, "Glee's" a full-blown phenomenon. And Fox and the show's producers at 20th Century Fox TV are taking full advantage of that. Hence the show has already released five soundtracks after just one season (that's gotta be a record). And the "Glee" cast recently went on a four-city concert tour.

Fox has already picked up "Glee" for both a second and third season, so we'll have those pop-crooning high schoolers around for a while. Maria and I attended one of the Los Angeles "Glee" dates a few weeks ago... and hey, it's a guilty pleasure. The show was quite fun. And the crowd was pumped. I can't remember the last time we had to stand throughout a show at the Gibson Ampitheatre (where the seats are conducive to, well, sitting).
