FREE L.A.: Walk with Zombies and Learn Los Angeles History This Saturday

zombie walk 2014

Why should "The Walking Dead" have all the fun? Dress up as the undead and join Walk/Bike Glendale's annual Zombie Walk, a fun crawl (you're zombies, after all) down a few major streets in search of braaaainnnnnns. It's Saturday night at 6:30 pm; Go here for more details.

archives bazaar

The 9th Annual Archives Bazaar, sponsored by LA As Subject, features dozens of regional historic societies, all under one roof. It's a must for L.A. history geeks like me, and it's free. (Parking at USC is $10, however.) Details:

Come experience the diversity of stories that make Southern California such a place of discovery. At the 9th-annual Los Angeles Archives Bazaar, presented by L.A. as Subject and the USC Libraries, anyone with an interest in the region’s history will find something of value. A broad array of institutions and archives will have experts on hand to show off their collections and answer questions—from the Autry National Center of the American West and the Los Angeles Public Library to private collectors whose materials fill the gaps left in the region’s history. In all, more than 70 archives will be represented at this event, which is free and open to the public.

In addition, the bazaar will feature an archives roadshow, where anyone can bring historic photos or documents from home they want scanned; panels featuring specialists discussing the monsters that lurk throughout Southern California and L.A.’s “magical” year of 1939; and a screening of Monomania L.A., a documentary sponsored by Cal Humanities and airing on KCET about the motives and passions of collectors.

Re-Animated: Mickey Mouse, Miss Piggy, "Gravity Falls" and More Get Zombie-fied

zombie

The creative minds at Disney TV Animation -- now celebrating its 30th anniversary -- do great work. "Phineas and Ferb," "Gravity Falls," "Fish Hooks" and so many more, have been favorites of the Blogger Kids for years. But in their down time, the animators are just as creative, and every once in a while they showcase their talents via a gallery inside their Glendale headquarters.

On Tuesday night, the Disney Television Animation crew unveiled their latest display: "Re-Animated: The Zombie Show." A mix of beloved Disney characters zombified, and some original creations (and mashups) as well. Disney TV Animation opened the event -- doubling as a celebration of their 30th anniversary -- with a cocktail reception. Here are some highlights from the show:

Disney zombie
(It's hard to tell in this photo, but Zombie Mickey is devouring another Mickey.)

Disney zombie
(Oh, Miss Piggy, what happened?)

Disney zombie
(The "Gravity Falls" kids do the "Thriller" with a new friend!)

Disney zombie
("Gravity Falls" has tackled zombies on the show, so it only makes sense it would be a popular subject at this display.)

Disney zombie
(You always knew this was how Scrooge McDuck would end up.)

Disney zombie
(Zombie-fied "Phineas & Ferb" characters, as drawn on sandwich napkins!)

Disney zombie
(This may be my favorite of all, and I hope they turn it into a real book. A twisted take on "Winnie the Pooh.")

Zombies Invade Glendale, Terrorize Americana Customers

Zombies

The Blogger Kid (that's him on the left) and I (on the right) took part in Saturday night's second annual Zombie Walk down the streets of Glendale. About 50 other Zombies and other creatures joined in as we stumbled our way down Brand, from Glendale's Central Park to its historic Alex Theatre. Along the way we spooked shoppers, restaurant patrons, cabbies and more. (Except for that one woman at a salon, who shot us the coldest look of disdain perhaps I'd ever seen.)
